About a minute.
Last time:cheating costs stake.
What to do with this picture
You now have the model. Everything else — apps, tokens, layer 2s — is a variation on keys, gas, blocks, and contracts.
Try it
Maya still signs with the same key. The street is what changes the bill.
this send = a lunch when the main street is busy.
01
You sign on L2
Same key as Ethereum. The instruction is cheap because fewer machines run it first.
02
L2 batches the work
Hundreds of those instructions compress into one posting.
03
Ethereum seals the batch
The side street still settles on the main ledger. Same honesty model, smaller gas bill.
If you want to try it, get a wallet from a source you typed yourself, not from a random ad. Write down the seed phrase offline. Send a tiny amount of ETH first, on purpose, so a mistake is cheap. Use a block explorer to watch the transaction land. That loop — sign, wait, confirm — is the whole user experience.
Most activity now happens on layer-2 networks that batch work and settle back to Ethereum. They are usually cheaper. They still use the same keys and the same mental model. You are still signing instructions; the street is just less congested.
Be boring about safety. Nobody from “support” will ask for your seed phrase. A website that needs you to “validate your wallet” by typing 12 words is a theft. If a return looks impossible, it probably is.
This primer is a map, not a product pitch. Ethereum is a public machine with real costs, real scams, and real uses. You do not have to like the culture around it to understand the mechanism. Understanding the mechanism is how you decide whether to touch it at all.
Takeaway
Keys, ETH, gas, blocks, contracts, stake. Learn those six, and the rest of the ecosystem is vocabulary.
